Some supporters have travelled from far to attend the launch although COPE has insisted that it had not bussed anyone supporters in from outside the province.
The official program is due to commence shortly with a walk about by party leadership while COPE Deputy President Mbhazima Shilowa is expected to announce defections after that.
It has been speculated that these could even include former South African deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and Minister Sydney Mufamadi but this may be considered rumour at this stage.
