Thousands of principals and teachers returned to their classrooms on Tuesday to prepare for schools reopening on Wednesday.
Vandals targeted institutions during the holidays, stealing various items including the copper pipes them to scrap metal dealers.
Education MEC Yusuf Gabru said they would assess the schools hit by vandals.
Gabru has urged Grade 12 learners who failed in 2008 to work harder this year.
He also urged 2008 Matric students who have not yet received their results to go to their schools immediately.
“I think by now everybody would have had their results. We issued a statement a few days ago saying that if learners didn’t have their results they should go to school because the problem would most likely have been there,” said the MEC. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
