The National Association of School Governing Bodies announced on Tuesday that fee-charging learning institutions should be abolished.<?xml:namespace prefix="o"?>

The association spoke out ahead of the start of the <?xml:namespace prefix="st1"?><place w:st="on"><state w:st="on">Western Cape’s academic school year on Wednesday.

The association’s Organising Secretary Alan Liebenberg said many parents who were well off, did not bat an eyelid at paying ever-increasing fees.

Liebenberg said government must assume responsibility and pay fees for poor families.
