Economists say consumers can expect food price decreases in comming weeks.
Experts say South Africans have been waiting to see the drastic petrol price drop reflected in their food items, and became increasingly worried when there was no sign of a decline.
A number of large food retailers have reported in recent weeks that the petrol price would not impact the current food prices.
But officials say there will be a significant drop in February.
