The Resolution Downwind Dash takes place on Saturday on the West coast.

The world’s biggest kite and windsurf race was scheduled to kick off from Langebaan.

With a strong wind forecast, the battle between the kiters and windsurfers would be close.

Included in the 130 pre-registered entrants, were the defenders of the 2008 Dash trophies, Alex Caizerguerus and Sjoukje Bredenkamp.

This year, the Dash was sanctioned by both the IKA and IWA and will be a unique adventure where youngsters and families raced alongside top international competitors.

The new amendment to the course makes the total distance 20km and Race Director Malcolm McGregor cautioned that there was likely to be a big swell and a lot of chop with a 25 knot wind.

The total prize is R70 000 worth of cash and travel prizes.
