ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has reiterated that the party’s <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?><state w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Western Cape chairperson will not be sacked.

Mcebisi Skwatsha has widely been blamed for the party’s defeat during last month’s by-elections in several areas in the province.

A team of National Executive Committee officials was dispatched to help the provincial leadership.

Mantashe said the rumours suggesting Skwatsha was to be fired were not true.

“The irony of democratic process is that it is not a question of choices and liking and people are elected even if you don’t like them,” said Mantashe.
