The South African Prisoners Organisation for Human Rights says it also wants political parties to take their election campaigns to prisons.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

The organisation believes this will help prisoners vote for parties that will best fight for their human rights.

The organisation’s Golden Miles Bhudu says prisoners are uninformed voters because they are always neglected when parties go on their election campaigns.

However, the IEC’s Courtney Sampson says they are in talks with the Correctional Services Department to start voter education in the country’s prisons.

“We are also, at the same time, preparing the registration drive in the prisons so that is part of our planning and it will kick start just after the registration weekend,” says Sampson.
