The Movement for Democratic Change’s Morgan Tsvangirai called on Motlanthe, as chairperson of the Southern African Development Community, to convene the meeting.

Former president and mediator Thabo Mbeki and <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Mozambique</country-region> leader Armando Guebuza were expected to attend.

Zanu-PF’s Bright Matonga called on the principals to put their differences aside.
