A new survey has revealed that more than half of South Africans have a bleak view of the economy for 2009.

The poll, conducted by the website www.justmoney.co.za, showed that more than 50% of the country’s citizens expected their finances to remain tight.

2008 was characterised by economic instability worldwide.

This was compounded by a series of fuel and food price hikes.

Justmoney’s Andy Gilder said he was expecting a more positive attitude among South Africans at the start of the New Year.
