A 56-year-old Retreat woman, who suffers from chronic high blood pressure, was turned away by a local hospital on Friday because she was incorrectly classified as dead. <?xml:namespace prefix="o"?>
Elma Arendse said staff at the Retreat Day Hospital told her that they could not assist her because their computers listed her as deceased since August last year.
Staff informed Arendse that they could not issue a new folder for her because they could not administer medication to dead people.
“She said to me ’I can’t find your folder’, she looks on the screen so she said to me ’but Mrs. Arendse, you have been declared dead from the August month’. I said, ’declared dead? I am standing in front of you, how can you say I am dead."
