A number of incidents including murders, rapes and robberies were reported in a field through which children had to walk to get to school.

Residents said that with schools re-opening next week, they were worried about the safety of their children.

One protestor, Lee Mally, claimed that the city council had ignored their complaints.

“Even the street lights are not working here; at the darkness [sic] they are attacking us when we go to the tuck shop."

The city council had not responded to the claims.
