The African National Congress in the <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?><state w:st="on">Western Cape has revealed that one of its <place w:st="on"><placename w:st="on">Breede<placetype w:st="on">River winelands members faced a possible suspension from the party.
The 35-year-old man was arrested and accused of raping a 40-year-old woman on New Year’s Day.
He will appear in the Ashton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
ANC Provincial Secretary Sipho Kroma said the branch would be meeting to decide what action should be taken.
Kroma added that the man faced suspension on the basis of the party’s attitude towards the abuse of women.
