Safety and Security Minister Nathi Mthethwa revealed on Monday that the public’s perception of police corruption was correct and vowed to fight it.

He said he was aware that senior officers were being investigated adding such people should be removed from the force.

The minister, who was appointed in September, said new strategies which were put in place to tackle crime were already proving to be successful.

This was also proven in the reduction of cash-in transit heists and ATM bombings during November and December last year.

The minister’s spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said, “An introduction has already been made to the provincial commissioner to crack down on these members because they are actually putting the name of the police, you know, into disrepute.”
