Police have arrested over 130 people in central <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?><place w:st="on"><city w:st="on">Johannesburg during the first weekend of the year.

Items including cellphones, copper cables and rolls of copper wire were found.

The police’s John Maluleke said, “Three were arrested for armed robbery, one for rape, one for house breaking, one for theft of a motor vehicle, seven for theft, six for shop lifting, eight for assault GBH, (grievous bodily harm). The rest of the suspects were arrested for committing other crimes ranging from assault, common robbery, drunken driving and loitering.”
