The Vodacom Beach Clean Up campaign was assisting 21 municipalities to clean up the country’s coastal litter.

The cellphone giant’s Western Cape Marketing Manager Abdul Karriem said beach litter increased every year.

Karriem was adamant that municipalities provide enough rubbish bins but sunbathers simply overlooked them.

He said refuse was left to pile up and added that some of the <place w:st="on">Cape’s beaches were affected more adversely than others.

The operation was expected to exceed last year’s collection of more than 40 000 rubbish bags.
