It was not only South African roads that were busy this time of year, airports became crowded as visitors began flocking home after their holidays.

Cape Town International Airport officials said they had noticed a large influx of holiday-makers travelling back to their various destinations.

Spokesperson Deidre Hendricks said the airport was particularly busy this weekend.

Hendricks said the airport wasat its busiest during January, February and March and urged those travelling to and from the city to arrive earlier than usual.

“This is our peak season particularly from a foreign visitor perspective where we see a whole host of foreigners comes through the airport. If you are travelling internationally, be at the airport two and a half hours beforehand and if you are travelling domestically make sure you are at the airport an hour and a half beforehand."
