New Year drownings in the Cape

A man has drowned at <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?><placename w:st="on">Blouberg<placetype w:st="on">Beach in <place w:st="on"><city w:st="on">Cape Town.

The victim was yet to be identified but was said to be in his mid-20s and from the Dunoon area.

At least four new drownings have been reported in <placetype w:st="on">Camps<placetype w:st="on">Bay and <place w:st="on"><placename w:st="on">Hout<placetype w:st="on">Bay.

Thousands of people flocked to the city’s beaches on Thursday for New Year’s Day.

The National Sea Rescue Institute’s Craig Lambinon said, “It appears at this stage that it is leading towards being a quieter season for the emergency services around beach incidents done on previous years. Obviously one drowning is one drowning too many.”
