An army spokesperson said rocket launchers and weapon storage facilities were the targets which followed the killing of a top Hamas commander on Thursday.

More than 400 Palestinians were reportedly killed over the past seven days. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Palestinian political analyst Sami Abdel Shafi said uncertainty about a possible Israeli ground attack added to the tension in <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Gaza.

"No-one really has an opinion after the surprise attack on Saturday so people are bracing themselves for any possibility although they have no means to defend themselves as they are ordinary people for the most part."
