Man who allegedly killed police officer in Philippi arrested

CAPE TOWN - An alleged cop killer has been arrested.
Forty-three-year-old Xolisa Lufutha is accused of shooting Siyakubonga Mphakathi in Philippi in June 2022.
The murder drew the attention of Police Minister Bheki Cele, who visited the grieving family in Mfuleni.
Hawks spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi, said initially two suspects were apprehended, but they were released due to insufficient evidence in October.
"Warrants of arrest for the two accused were subsequently obtained and they were circulated as wanteds, hence the apprehension of Lufutha. He is expected to appear at the Athlone Magistrates Court on Thursday, 9 May 2024."
