Ramaphosa was speaking at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Saturday where he led Freedom Day celebrations to mark 30 years of democracy.

He said three decades ago, women in South Africa were deprived of opportunities and were forced to work for less.

But Ramaphosa applauded his government for allowing women to enjoy equal rights.

"Close to half of the members of Parliament, the judges in our benches and magistrates are women. More than 60% of the public servants in our government are women. In South Africa today, girls learn alongside boys and receive equal education."
