JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela on Monday told government managers to stop running departments like their “own kitchens”.
She made the comments during the Gauteng leg of her nationwide public hearings on service delivery.
The event took place at the Johannesburg City Hall.
Madonsela said those in power must learn to respect whistle-blowers.
“If someone has gone to the opposition party to get assistance, that is not a declaration of war.”
A Thokoza resident shared her experience of corruption in the allocation of RDP houses.
“I applied for an RDP house in April 1997 and to this day, I am still waiting.”
Madonsela also spoke out about violent service delivery protests.
She said residents no longer have to burn, break or destroy property in order to be heard.
