CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant insisted on Friday he has nothing to hide by not releasing an audit report on school pupil transport in the province.
Friday 24 August, marked one year since the Rheenendal bus tragedy, which claimed the lives of 14 children and a bus driver.
The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) said it is worried by the fact that the report would not be made public.
Cosas’ Samkelo Mqomboti said, “They are depriving us the knowledge [in the report].”
However, Education MEC Donald Grant said if the report had to be released it would be setting a negative precedent.
“If members of staff know the work they’re doing is going to end up in public domain, they’re going to be less than frank.”
Grant said the document has seen various interventions being put in place to improve scholar transport.
The report into the Rheenendal crash revealed no one can be held responsible for the tragedy.
