JOHANNESBURG - There is a heavy police presence on Old Pretoria Road in Marlboro, north of Johannesburg following evictions in the area.
Protests erupted after residents complained about the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers demolishing their shacks again on Tuesday.
The road leading to Marlboro Gardens is currently filled with rocks and trash.
Some residents walked around with sticks and bottles in protest of the evictions.
Earlier, a police helicopter was seen hovering around the area and vehicles patrolled the area.
There have been several protests in the past weeks because of planned evictions.
Residents said they were not given enough notice and had nowhere to stay.
Earlier in this month, around 100 illegally built shacks were demolished in Marlboro.
In June, a police car was torched and live rounds were fired after police officers and residents clashed.
The JMPD has been tasked with enforcing eviction orders.
