JOHANNESBURG – The story of a hippo stuck in a Modimolle swimming pool has minds boggled.

It is understood the animal has been trapped in the pool for two days and that eBlockwatch, a community crime fighting unit, is calling on residents to help with rescue operations.

According to officials at the game park, the hippo was chased away by other animals.

They said getting it out of the pool was proving to be quite difficult.

eBlockwatch spokesperson Andre Snyman said they will need a crane to remove the animal.

He said most of the water from the pool had been removed.

Snyman called on vets and farmers to assist by offering advice on how best to handle the situation.
