JOHANNESBURG - Team South Africa's Parlympic team(Amakrokokroko) looks set to win more medals at the 2012 Paralympic Games following the country’s success at the recent London Olympics.
A team of 62 athletes who attended a farewell dinner in Sandton, northern Johannesburg on Monday, will represent South Africa at the Games.
They will get underway on 29 August in London.
Amakrokokroko will be hoping to emulate their success at the 2008 Beijing Games where they returned with 30 medals, 21 of which were gold.
The team received inspirational speeches from Olympic world-record swimmer Cameron van der Burgh and Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula.
Mbalula gave the team his medal target.
“40 - that is possible. They must bring back 40 golds”
Double-amputee Oscar Pistorius was revealed as Amakrokokroko's official flag-bearer at the opening ceremony.
