JOHANNESBURG - Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula encouraged all South Africans to make their way to OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday afternoon to bid farewell to our Paralympians.
The athletes jet off to London to take part in the 2012 London Paralympic Games over the next two weeks.
Mbalula is confident the whole of South Africa will get behind the team.
“Bring the flags to support the team. They will understand that South Africa is a great nation that is behind them.”
Mbalula said he was looking forward to welcoming the Amakrokokroko draped in medals back to South Africa after the Games.
“We will not go to OR Tambo to support mediocrity. We will be there to support champions.”
The minister also gave Team SA its medal target.
“40 - that is possible. They must bring back 40 gold medals.”
Double-amputee Oscar Pistorius will be the team’s official flag-bearer at the opening ceremony.
