Pretoria teachers 'having love affairs with pupils'
Some teachers from a Pretoria school have been accused of having sexual relations with their pupils.
JOHANNESBURG - The Basic Education Department has condemned two incidents at a Pretoria west school, where teachers have allegedly been having sexual relations with their pupils.
An email sent into Talk Radio 702 alerted the department to the alleged misconduct, triggering an investigation
In the email, a pupil describes how pictures circulating the school indicate one of the teachers is having an inappropriate relationship with one of her pupils.
The girl, who sent the email, says she was wary of being singled out if she complains as the school allegedly covered up a previous relationship between a young teacher and one of her male pupils.
The department's Charles Phahlane says, “The Schools Act is very clear that any educator found guilty of this will be struck of the educators’ roll.”
Meanwhile, three KwaZulu-Natal teachers were also accused of having love affairs with their pupils.
Parents and pupils protested against the teachers in Mtubatuba.
One of the teachers allegedly impregnated a grade 12 pupil.
