Chanel September | 18 August 2012 CAPE TOWN - A manhunt has been launched after a police constable was gunned down in his Khayelitsha home. Yanga Tshefu was shot dead in his bedroom while sleeping on Friday. Three suspects entered the 27-year-old's home and shot him before fleeing from the scene. he died on his way to hospital. They stole two cell phones and a wallet. The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru)'s Mncedisi Mbolekwa says the suspects must be arrested as soon as possible. “The police need to ensure that the killers and caught so that justice can be served.” Mbolekwa adds residents should help police track down the suspects. “We are calling on the public to come forward with any information that can help the investigators.” Meanwhile, the police's November Filander says the matter is under investigation “The motive at this stage is robbery as they only took two cell phones. Anyone with information regarding the case can contact the Khayelitsha Police Station.” Earlier this week, Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega said a policeman is killed every 10 days. She said they were working on a strategy to ensure the safety of the South African Police Service (SAPS) members. (Edited by Lindiwe Mlandu)
