JOHANNESBURG - The Limpopo ANC Youth League (ANCYL) on Monday said its chairperson Rudzani Ludere only apologised to provincial Education MEC Dickson Masemola because he was forced to by the ruling party.

Last week, the chairperson said Masemola should be stoned because of his role in the Limpopo textbook scandal.

Some learners in the province have been waiting for textbook since the beginning of the year.

On Monday, the Limpopo ANC ordered Ludere to publicly apologise for the comments.

Limpopo ANCYL spokesperson Klaas Mabunda said Ludere would not have said sorry otherwise.

There is mounting pressure for top education officials to be fired for their role in the textbook fiasco.

Earlier, the Department of Basic Education missed two deadlines to deliver books.
