JOHANNESBURG - President Jacob Zuma has pledged South Africa's support in helping newly elected Libyan President Mohammed Magarief to establish democracy in that country.

On Friday, he was declared president by Libya's national assembly following Muammar Gaddafi’s fall back in October 2011.

Department of International Relations spokesperson Clayson Monyela said Zuma is looking forward to working with the National Front Party as they draft a new constitution.

He said Libya has South Africa's full backing.

“South Africa remains ready to assist Libya in the process of the democratic transformation.”
