JOHANNESBURG - South African sporting bodies and Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula vowed on Saturday to ask government to "walk the talk" when it comes to funding Olympic athletes.
According to a report in the Saturday Star, spending was hardly impressive compared to the funding received by countries such as Britain.
The official agency responsible for funding British athletes, UK sport, received around R1.2 billion a year from Treasury and the National Lottery for sports.
In South Africa, a total of R33.8 million was invested for both the Olympics and Paralympics.
Team South Africa has bagged five medals so far during the 2012 London Olympics - three gold, a silver and a bronze.
