JOHANNESBURG – Police confirmed on Saturday that South Africa–based Zimbabwean journalist and author Heidi Holland has died.
Details remain sketchy but the police said the journalist's body was found hanging from a tree at her house in Johannesburg in the morning.
Her gardener discovered her body.
“It is alleged that the gardener, when he arrived for work, found the 64-year-old, who had killed herself in her garden,” the police’s Katlego Mogale confirmed.
Holland was involved in the journalism industry for over 30 years.
According to Penguin SA, Holland worked as a freelance writer on publications such as The Sunday Times,The Telegraph, International Herald Tribune, The New York Times and The Guardian.
She also worked on research projects for British television documentaries.
She is the author of various books such as the recent "Dinner with Mugabe", an account of her meetings with Robert Mugabe.
