JOHANNESBURG - The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) on Friday threatened to go on strike if waste collection company Pikitup does not increase the salaries of its members.

The union also called on the company to release results of an audit, which it believes will reveal corruption within the organisation.

Samwu said management failed to implement an agreement to increase the salaries of low-earning workers.

Union spokesperson Tahir Sema said they will also take Pikitup to court.

“We want the forensic audit and for management to respond to the implementation of the agreement reached. If this is not concluded, we will seriously consider strike action.”
