JOHANNESBURG - The mother of murdered Roodepoort teen Louise de Waal, Shireen, told Eyewitness News on Wednesday that testimony during the first three days of the suspected ‘Sunday Rapist’ trial, was shattering.
Hearing the details of how her daughter died was unbearable.
The court on Wednesday heard de Waal had been strangled and tests showed she had inhaled smoke which meant she was most likely alive when she was set alight.
Shireen said, while everyone headed home after court proceedings carrying on with their lives, her life had stopped.
Johannes Steyn faces 37 criminal charges, including the murders of de Waal and 14-year-old Pretoria girl Lazanne Farmer.
On Thursday morning the trial within a trial with regard to a confession Steyn made following his arrest is expected to continue.
