JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on Saturday said it was concerned after the scene of the Evaton hostage drama was cleared before an investigator arrived.

On Friday, a man held his girlfriend hostage in a car.

He had allegedly shot and wounded the woman's sister in Vereeniging earlier in the day.

After trying to negotiate with the armed man, police snipers opened fire and the man was killed.

The directorate's Moses Dlamini said, “The IPID was called after the incident. One of our investigators arrived at the scene and it had been cleared.”

Meanwhile the police's Dennis Adriao said they welcome any complaints from the directorate.

“The IPID was contacted. If there are any concerns, they can bring that directly to our attention.”

Adrio said they have a strong working relationship with the IPID.
