Lelo Mzaca | 08 May 2012 JOHANNESBURG - Veteran local coach Gordon Igesund on Tuesday called on the South African fans to give new Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter a chance. Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung ended speculation about who would replace Vladimir Vermezovic when he confirmed Baxter had signed a three-year contract with the club on Monday. The former Bafana Bafana coach will begin his new job at Naturena in July. Many fans have been calling on the PSL’s top three to employ local coaches after importing mentors for decades. Irate fans took to twitter on Monday to voice their disapproval of Baxter’s appointment. Gabriel Sithole tweeted: “What? You kidding me! #Stuart Baxter". Siphamandla Mthethwa sent out a message, saying: "#Stuart Baxter I can't understand why Chiefs would hire Baxter! Steve Khompela is in my view a much better choice." Baxter once coached Bafana Bafana for a short period in 2004. However, Igesund said fans should wait for Baxter to prove himself. “Let’s give him a chance. He’s a good coach, there’s no doubt about that.” The Moroka Swallos trainer added he has a lot of respect for Baxter. “I think Stuart Baxter is a fantastic appointment for Kaizer Chiefs. I know Baxter personally, I think he’s a great professional and he’ll bring a lot to Kaizer Chiefs.” Chiefs are currently fighting to finish in the top eight after slumping to a record four straight defeats recently.
