R10 addition is an insult – civil servants

Public servants who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Friday said they were insulted by government’s latest offer.

The 6.5 percent wage increase and other improved benefits is not good enough for the disgruntled workers, who are still demanding 8.6 percent.

Hundreds of people marched through the city centre as part of their two-day strike action.

The angry civil servants said government’s R10 addition to the housing allowance is unacceptable.

“That is absolutely outrageous. That is stupid,” said one employee.

“It was an insult to the workers,” another said.

The Pretoria city centre came to a standstill on Friday when hundreds took to the streets.

The Public Service and Administration acting Director General Kenny Govender accepted the memorandum.

”By Wednesday next week, we should be able to come to some sort of a settlement,” Govender said.

Protesting employess will return to work on Monday, saying they are looking forward to a better offer next week.
