The ANC on Sunday said its National Executive Committee would not get involved in an alleged leadership battle within the youth league.
The NEC held a two-day meeting last week to discuss a number of issues ranging from policy discussions ahead of the ruling party’s National Congress later this year to widespread fears about a second outbreak of xenophobic attacks.
But there was no mention of the tussle between youth league leader Julius Malema and former Limpopo chair Lehlogonolo Masoga.
Masoga is planning to take legal action against his expulsion from the youth wing, claiming a disciplinary hearing against him was orchestrated by Malema to stop him from contesting the leagues leadership.
ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe promised to intervene in the tussle politically but said the youth league did not feature on the NEC’s meeting agenda.
“There was no discussion on that. Our approach to the youth league issues is that we are dealing with those issues operationally. They are not issues that should be discussed by the NEC at this point in time,” said Mantashe.
