Beaufort West police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an initiate in the area.

Luvuyo Gwegwe (19) died while attending a circumcision school near the town earlier this month.

He is the only initiate who has died in the Western Cape since the beginning of December.

Beaufort Police spokesperson David De Klerk said an inquest docket has been opened.

“At this stage no foul play is suspected. The guy died of unnatural causes but as I said no foul play is suspected at this stage,” he said.
