MKMVA ‘disappointed’ by removal of Des van Rooyen as minister
Van Rooyen, who’s been linked to the controversial Gupta family, was sacked along with nine other ministers during a Cabinet reshuffle in February.
JOHANNESBURG - The Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) has expressed its disappointment following the removal of its Treasurer General Des van Rooyen as the Cabinet minister.
However, the MKMVA says although it’s disappointing, it has accepted that it’s the president’s prerogative to appoint and dismiss members of the executive as he sees fit.
Addressing the media, following its two-day NEC meeting, the association’s Kebby Maphatsoe says they will support the current African National Congress (ANC) leadership and work hard to ensure that the ruling party gets a decisive victory in next year’s general election.
“There must be no doubt that, similarly to how we as MKMVA supported Jacob Zuma when he was president of the ANC, we will do the same for the newly-elected ANC NEC under the leadership of Ramaphosa.”
