CT natural hair festival receives massive turn-out

Some natural hair enthusiasts say they couldn’t miss one of the biggest events of the year which caters specifically for people who have gone the natural route or are thinking of it.

CAPE TOWN - The venue in Paarden Eiland outside Cape Town is crammed with afros, dreadlocks, and braids of different varieties, sizes and colours for the Cape Town Naturally Hair Festival.

Some natural hair enthusiasts say they couldn’t miss one of the biggest events of the year which caters specifically for people who have gone the natural route or are thinking of it.

“This is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

“I’m just here to see all the natural girls and see the kind of products are on the market”

One of the organisers, Eleanor Barkes, says she didn’t expect such a massive turnout.

“More and more women and men are embracing their natural hair textures. They are tired of holding on to old beauty standards.”
