Gqom’ing to the top: SA's most watched YouTube videos for 2017

YouTube Rewind has released its annual list of most watched videos in the country in 2017.

Gqom (a dance music genre which originates from Durban), gospel and tragedy are some of the biggest topics which had South African's glued to their computer and mobile screens on YouTube this year.

YouTube Rewind has released its annual list of the most watched videos in South Africa in 2017 and the list is as diverse as it comes.

Topping the list is the popular gqom track Gobis'iqolo by Bhizer featuring Busiswa, SC Gorna, Bhepepe with 4,123,682 views, followed by Kaybee and Lady Zamar's Charlotte in second and the catchy tune Akanamali by Sun-EL Musician featuring Samthing Soweto.

Eyewitness News' video featuring Simphiwe Ngema speaking lovingly about her late husband Dumi Masilela, who died tragically after a botched hijacking in August, is also featured on the list at number 10.

Red-haired musician Ed Sheeran tops the list of most watched music videos while DJ Khaled follows in second and third place, making him the only artist to be featured more than once on the list.
