CT woman handed 18 years in jail for beating Lache Stols (3) to death
Anthea Kleynhans has been handed 13 years for murder and seven years for child abuse, two of which will run concurrently with the murder conviction.
CAPE TOWN - A woman has been sentenced to an effective 18 years imprisonment for beating to death her boyfriend’s three-year-old daughter because she soiled herself.
Anthea Kleynhans repeatedly beat Lache Stols over a period of three months.
Kleynhans has been handed 13 years for murder and seven years for child abuse, two of which will run concurrently with the murder conviction.
Kleynhans wiped away tears and said a tearful goodbye to relatives in the public gallery after hearing her sentence.
The mother of two claims alcohol abuse played a role in her aggressive behaviour towards her then boyfriend’s daughter.
Kleynhans claims she was abused by her boyfriend when they lived together in Happy Valley.
She says during this period she began abusing alcohol.
Kleynhans says her boyfriend unexpectedly brought his three-year-old daughter to live with them in 2011.
Lache Stols lived with her biological father and Kleynhans for three months in 2012 - before she was beaten to death for soiling herself.
Kleynhans admits to having repeatedly assaulted the child over a period of time.
An autopsy revealed the child suffered burn wounds on her feet, cuts to her lips, a broken arm, injured ribs, as well as injuries to the head and skull.
The judge says he believes Kleynhans can be rehabilitated.
