JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have arrested over 3,000 suspects for various crimes over the weekend.

According to authorities, 365 of the suspects were found in Johannesburg.

Officers have conducted various operations towards the festive season period.

Officials say the majority of the arrests were for driving under the influence of alcohol and the possession of unlicensed firearms, with more than 50 firearms seized this weekend.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minaar says: “Many drunk driving operations will be held in Johannesburg over weekends leading up to the festive season. There will be a zero tolerance towards drunken driving as many parties will take place.”
