JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Police Commissioner Deliwe de Lange has singled out the Midrand Police Station as the worst performing station in Johannesburg.
De Lange and her team presented the 2016/2017 crime statistics in the provincial legislature on Tuesday.
In Ekurhuleni, the Edenvale Police Station was rated the worst in terms of performance targets and De Lange says this is due to poor leadership.
She says changing leadership will be a strategy at other poor performing stations.
Mamelodi East Police Station was the worst in Tshwane while Lenasia Police Station was ranked the best in Johannesburg.
Del Lange also revealed the murder rate has increased by 6.7% while attempted murder went up by 6.5%.
The sexual offences rate increased by 0.6%. There's been a decrease in rape cases but an increase in cases of other forms of sexual assault in the province.
The Gauteng police say hijackings, house and business robberies have increased by more than 10% in the past financial year.
The statistics paint a grim picture, as serious crimes are on the rise.
Carjackings have increased by 16.9% and house robberies increased by 10.6%.
However, police reported a decrease of 50% in bank robberies.
