CAPE TOWN - The South African Weather Service is warning of heavy rains which may lead to flash floods along the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Eastern Cape coasts.

The Weather Service says residents should watch out for thunderstorms with possible hail, heavy downpours and strong winds over north-western KZN and some parts of the Free State.

It says the southern Highveld of Mpumalanga is also expected to hit by heavy downpours and strong winds.

Forecaster Victoria Nurse said: “For KwaZulu-Natal we’re expecting 80% chance of showers and thundershowers across most of the province. We do have a warning out for heavy rainfall along the coastline and severe thunderstorms over the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.”
