CAPE TOWN - Electricity has been restored in Somerset West and Gordon's Bay.

Two electricity substations were damaged in the wildfire that's been burning since Tuesday.

Eskom's Kyle Cookson said: “The fire caused extensive damage to the Waterkloof 66KB line resulting in the unplanned outage which affected 5,932 customers. Eskom’s technical team solved the problem and electricity supply was restored.”

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town's JP Smith says the first rough estimate of damage caused by the fire is R38 million.

The fire started on Tuesday afternoon on Sir Lowry's Pass and quickly spread to the seaside town.

It destroyed or damaged five homes.
