JOHANNESBURG - The State Security Department maintains that Minister Bongani Bongo is not involved in any corruption and fraud.

This follows reports that the minister is being investigated by the Hawks over alleged criminal activity arising from his time as head of legal services in the Mpumalanga Human Settlements Department in 2012.

The Sunday Times reported on Sunday that reports submitted to the police ministry revealed that Bongo was also involved in breaches of procurement processes regarding farm purchases worth R123 million.

State Security spokesperson Brian Dube insists that the minister has done nothing wrong.

“He did work for the Human Settlement Department in Mpumalanga. During his tenure, he consents that there was nothing wrong that he had done.”
