Zuma: Govt taking OR Tambo Airport crimes seriously
President Jacob Zuma says a team of members from all law enforcement agencies has been put together to deal with crimes related to the OR Tambo International airport.
JOHANNESBURG - President Jacob Zuma says a team of members from all law enforcement agencies has been put together to deal with crimes related to the OR Tambo International Airport.
The president was speaking after unveiling the statue of former African National Congress (ANC) president OR Tambo at the airport.
Over the last few months, some local and international travellers have been attacked and robbed while travelling from the airport.
President Jacob Zuma says the team working on the crimes will ensure the attacks come to an end and that criminals are brought to book.
"A team has been assembled from all agencies to work to work on this critical intervention."
He says that the airport must be kept safe in memory of OR Tambo.
"We must uphold the memory of OR Tambo by making this airport and every other part of our country safe."
The president says that government takes the crimes related to the airport seriously and has promised they will come to an end.
