19 Ivory Park pupils injured in stampede discharged

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department says all pupils injured in a stampede at a primary school in Ivory Park have been discharged.
On Friday, 19 pupils between grades four and seven were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
The department says the learners were injured when they rushed towards a science exhibition at the school to get closer to the show.
The event was immediately canceled after the incident.
Departmental spokesperson Steve Mabona said: “Those we were struggling to get hold of their parents, we then took home and explained to the parents what happened. We profusely apologise for the incident.”
